Summer Camp 2010

This isn't your ordinary camp.

It's just not. There are no canoes. There are no cabins. We don't have Indian names (unless you were given one at birth). We have showers. People cook for us. We might make something out of macaroni, but it's doubtful.

Who can come: students who have completed their freshman year of high school, up through students who have just graduated from high school.

Here's what we are: the best camp for improv training if you're a high school student or an educator who works with theatre students. You're going to laugh a lot. Not a little -- a lot. You'll walk away with skills that will benefit you your entire life: trust, confidence, creative problem solving, teamwork, focus and the ability to turn challenges into gold. Simply, improv skills are essential for any actor, but also for anyone who wants to succeed.

All workshops are taught by professionals from ComedySportz Los Angeles, the longest running show in the city. Evenings are filled with different live shows every night, and there's plenty of time for swimming, soccer, softball, dodgeball, classic comedy films, and maybe even macaroni art.

Workshops include: games, dramatic improv, musical improv, styles, Shakespeare, commercial auditioning and more!

Be sure to check out the low cost scholarships available. You can also get discounts for early registration or for bringing along some friends. Educators willing to assist our counselors can also attend at a lower rate.

It's the opportunity of a lifetime. Don't miss out. We might make macaroni hats...

When:

Session A: Tuesday, July 6 - Saturday, July 10, 2010
Session B: Tuesday, July 20 - Saturday, July 24, 2010 This session is SOLD OUT, sorry!

Where:

Session A: Biola University, La Mirada, CA (a good location for campers in southern LA County or in Orange/San Diego Counties)
Session B: Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Canada, CA (in the hills overlooking Pasadena)

This year’s camp will be held in two different locations!

Session A: La Mirada, CA on the campus of Biola University

Biola Dorm

Biola University has been a long-time supporter of ComedySportz; however, as always, our camp has no religious affiliation of any kind.

Biola is a small, private university with a rich heritage. Campers will stay on private floors in the most recently rennovated student dormitory. Dormitories are fully air conditioned and offer double and triple occupancy. Each room is furnished with dressers and desks.  Each floor has group bathrooms. Each floor is divided by gender.

The campus is quiet and peaceful with immaculately clean grounds and full-time security.

Session B: La Canada, CA on the campus of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy

FSHA

Session B will be held on the campus of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in the San Gabriel mountains. FSHA is a long-time supporter of ComedySportz and our High School League; however, as always, our camp has no religious affiliation of any kind.

Originally built as a luxury hotel in 1927, the Flintridge Biltmore Hotel was first managed by Senator Frank P. Flint. The hotel was sold in 1931 to become the school and has been administered ever since by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. This historical building won several awards for architecture and is perched on top of the hills with views overlooking beautiful La Canada on one side and Pasadena and the Rose Bowl on the other.

Most sleeping rooms are triple-occupancy with two twin beds and one Aerobed. The rooms are spacious and come furnished with dressers, desks and fans. Each room also has its own private bathroom with tub and shower, and walk-in closets.

The softball field and soccer field offer a breathtaking view of the mountains and valley below. There are also plenty of quiet retreats tucked away near fountains, patios and trees. You'll probably see a deer or two while you're there.

FSHA's suburban, hilltop location isolates the campus and its guests from excessive traffic and passers-by, creating a safe and secure environment.

Cost:

We know everyone is feeling the effects of the economy, so we're pleased to tell you that the cost of our camps have not gone up. They're exactly the same as last year.  Even so, we still have some great discounts:

• There is an additional $25-to-$30 early bird discount for Individual and Team registrations on or before May 1, 2010.
